Meet Amanda Alabre
Being a theater major has caused me to open up a lot more. I can definitely say without a doubt I was more introverted when I came, but now I'm coming out, open to new experiences and new people and more willing to try new things than I was before.
Getting more into photography and video making has helped me realize a lot of my likes and dislikes. As well as being around such creative people, it led me to start a business of my own. I started making bracelets as a hobby and decided to take it a step further with selling them. It makes me so happy to see people's faces after they get the bracelets they either custom ordered or trusted me to create. I've just started this, and I can't wait to see where it will take me.
At first I wasn't sure about what coming to her arts-focused high school would look like for me. Until I got a push from my dance teacher at the time. I had only ever done dance, and theater felt like something that was way out of my reach. After being accepted into the school, I found myself being pushed more and more out of my comfort zones, and that allowed me to meet amazing people and go on to discover amazing things about myself as well. Enrolling in the theater program at Martha Ellen Stillwell School of the Arts has been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made.
I have been a part of many things at this school that I never would have thought possible. I went from watching my older sister perform at the school when it first opened to performing there myself, and I can definitely say it feels like a dream come true. The teachers often encourage me to try new things, and overall it is a very inclusive space.
